Department: Geography, Geology, and the Environment
Description: Advanced undergraduate and graduate field course that will visit the oil producing areas of central and southern Illinois and adjacent Kentucky and Indiana. Primary focus is to study the structure and stratigraphy of oil bearing strata. There will be visits to active oil fields and transport and refining facilities and discussion with local professionals about all the aspects of exploration, production, transportation, refining, and distribution of oil. Students registering for 4 credit hours (designed for teachers interested in developing curricula to incorporate into their classrooms) must complete an extra week of math, high school science, middle school, and elementary school modules. Multiple enrollments allowed; maximum of 4 credit hours.
